About gifts of stocks, securities, & mutual funds
Many people choose to give stocks, securities, or mutual funds instead of cash. Donating appreciated assets you’ve held for more than one year may allow you to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and claim a charitable deduction based on the asset’s fair market value, subject to applicable tax rules and limits.
You can give appreciated assets now, or add the World Parrot Trust as a beneficiary of eligible financial assets as part of your estate plans.
Benefits
- Giving appreciated assets may offer tax advantages compared with selling the assets and donating the proceeds.
- Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets donated directly.
- May qualify for a charitable income tax deduction.
- Your gift makes an immediate impact for parrot conservation.
How it works
- Transfer appreciated securities directly to the World Parrot Trust (and avoid all capital gains taxes).
- Receive an acknowledgment of your gift for your records.
- The securities are sold and the proceeds help protect parrots.
